About the role
Kong is seeking a Software Engineer with a security specialization to join the Runtimes team as a Security Champion. The role involves securing the company's API and AI Gateway, performing security code audits, threat modeling, vulnerability management, and partnering with engineers on emerging AI/LLM threats. The position is hybrid based in Milan, Italy.
Requirements
Candidates need 3+ years production software experience with 2+ years in security (AppSec, vulnerability research, or pentesting). Strong coding in Rust, Java, Python, Go, or similar. Threat-modeling, L7 security, authentication, and AI attack vector knowledge required. Nice-to-haves include API gateway architecture familiarity, Lua, open-source contributions, and willingness to learn Rust.
