Lead Software Engineer, Data Platform

Viam is a robotics engineering platform. We are looking for a hands-on engineering manager to lead the Data/ML team, responsible for developing engineers, driving execution, and making architectural decisions. The team owns infrastructure for data from devices to cloud, ML training workflows, labeling pipelines, and inference. The role involves leading a team of 5+ engineers, writing code, owning architecture, driving reliability, and cross-team collaboration.

Experienced engineering manager with deep technical skills. Must have led teams through hiring, coaching, and career development; built and scaled backend/platform/infrastructure systems; shipped products across APIs, backend, and UI; made architectural decisions; influenced product direction; driven cross-functional projects; worked on distributed systems, data-intensive systems, streaming pipelines, or ML infrastructure.
