Software Engineer, AI Enablement

Tailscale is seeking a Software Engineer, AI Enablement to help its engineering organization get the most out of AI-assisted development. This role involves building tools, workflows, and practices for AI adoption, partnering with leadership, and establishing guardrails. The engineer will work on the internal AI-enablement roadmap, collaborate with the Aperture team, and track impact on velocity and quality.

5+ years professional software engineering experience; daily hands-on fluency with modern AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Pi, or similar); experience building and shipping internal tools or developer-facing automation; strong written and verbal communication and internal advocacy skills; a balanced approach to AI adoption; comfort with ambiguity and self-directed prioritization; product or systems thinking.
