Staff Software Engineer, Orders Platform

Instacart is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to lead foundational platform initiatives on the Orders Platform team. The Orders platform orchestrates the end-to-end lifecycle of every order across customers, shoppers, retailers, payments, fulfillment systems, and partner integrations at scale. The role involves defining and driving architectural strategy for systems supporting hundreds of millions of transactions annually, focusing on reliability, correctness, scalability, and aud.

10+ years of experience in large-scale backend or platform systems. Proven experience leading complex cross-functional technical initiatives. Strong foundation in distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and event-driven patterns. Proficiency in Go, Java, or Python. Production experience with relational and NoSQL data stores. On-call ownership, SLOs, incident management. Experience with AI-assisted development tools. Bachelor’s or Master’s in CS or equivalent.
