Lead Engineer - Payments Platform

Lead Engineer role on Payments Platform at Xero, responsible for foundational architectural decisions for money movement capabilities. Work spans shared platform capabilities (orchestration, risk/fraud, multi-provider) and customer-facing payment products like global bill payments. Stay hands-on in production code while setting technical direction. Shape engineering practices and AI-assisted workflows. Hybrid role in Vancouver or San Mateo, or remote in Seattle.

Must-have: proven track record delivering highly available distributed backend systems and high-throughput services; experience building platforms from early idea to production; deep understanding of system architecture, API design, databases; proficiency in C#, Java, Go, or C++ and AWS; strong technical leadership and hands-on approach. Nice-to-have: experience in payments/fintech, rebuilding established systems, partnering with cross-functional teams.
