Principal Software Engineer

Astronomer seeks a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and architectural vision for a cloud-agnostic, self-contained platform that provisions and scales Apache Airflow instances within enterprise on-premises environments. The role involves designing control plane and data plane services, extensible APIs, observability frameworks, and ensuring operation across isolated and air-gapped networks. The engineer will mentor the team and align with product management.

10+ years of professional software engineering experience at Staff/Principal level in enterprise infrastructure, with proven success building production-grade control planes and APIs. Expertise in observability stacks (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana). Strong Kubernetes foundation with custom operators and Helm. Hands-on hybrid cloud architecture across multiple providers and on-premise. Expert-level coding in Go, Python, or TypeScript. Excellent technical communication skills.
