About the role

Scale seeks a Staff Software Engineer to own the technical foundation for building, running, verifying, and delivering RL environments at scale. This includes designing sandboxed execution, environment packaging, rollout orchestration, and verifier frameworks, as well as building graders and task suites. The role is hands-on, setting technical direction across teams.

Requirements

8+ years software engineering with strong fundamentals in distributed systems, system design, and algorithms. Strong Python skills and production software experience, plus comfort in TypeScript/React, Go, or Rust. Deep experience with containerization (Docker, K8s), high-throughput backend systems, and hands-on LLM building including agent loops. Demonstrated ability to own ambiguous problems end-to-end and excellent communication.
