Staff Software Engineer, Backend

Staff Software Engineer on the Guides & Surveys team, responsible for building and evolving back-end services that store user progress, guides, and survey data. Works across full stack (80% back-end, 20% front-end), leads large cross-team initiatives, mentors engineers, and uses AI tools. Requires strong back-end engineering skills in PHP/Go/Java, front-end experience in JavaScript/React, and English fluency.

Designed, built, and operated complex back-end systems in production, ideally in PHP or Go (Java or other back-end languages also welcome). Written technical design docs, led architecture decisions, mentored engineers. Shipped front-end work in JavaScript, ideally with React. English fluency. Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. Nice to have: experience migrating legacy service, building in-app guidance or survey products, or working on real-time client-side experiences.
