Staff Backend Engineer

Sift is a data infrastructure platform for hardware engineering teams, building tools for rockets, satellites, autonomous vehicles, and more. The Staff Backend Engineer will design, build, and operate backend systems for real-time telemetry, own features end-to-end, collaborate with Frontend, Design, and Data teams, optimize for performance and scalability, and participate in on-call rotations. The role contributes to system evolution and raises standards through code reviews and mentorship.

Bachelor's degree in STEM, 7+ years backend/infrastructure experience. Proficiency in Go, Rust, or Python; strong Linux/networking. Deep SQL and operational database knowledge. Experience building and scaling APIs (REST, gRPC/Protobuf). Strong debugging and production-first mindset. Familiarity with Kubernetes, Prometheus, Argo CD. Nice-to-haves: streaming/time-series systems, performance tuning, observability, hardware/telemetry.
