Senior Software Engineer - Virtual Machines (RD222)

Defense Unicorns is building UDS VM, a product to securely deploy and manage virtual machines alongside containerized workloads within the UDS platform. The role involves building Kubernetes tooling, APIs, and workflows for VM lifecycle, image management, and integration with networking, observability, and security. The work sits at the intersection of software engineering, Kubernetes, virtualization, and security, targeting air-gapped environments.

5+ years professional software engineering experience, strong proficiency in Go or similar, experience with Kubernetes and distributed systems, APIs, system design, backend services, controllers, operators, Linux, containers, production software, problem-solving, communication, and mentorship. Preferred: KubeVirt, QEMU/KVM, Kubernetes operators, CRDs, Windows VMs, VM image formats, networking, storage, CLI tools, Zarf, OCI, air-gapped, open-source, security.
