Software Engineer, Product Infrastructure - Agent Runtime

OpenAI is building the shared agent primitives and compute runtime for its products. This role focuses on product infrastructure for persistent agents, including backend services, APIs, and runtime capabilities. The engineer will design and operate systems for persistent state, asynchronous execution, orchestration, and progress reporting, working closely with research, product, and infrastructure teams to turn model advances into reliable products.

7+ years of professional software engineering experience with substantial ownership of backend systems or developer platforms. Track record of designing, shipping, and operating production services, APIs, and data models. Strong distributed systems fundamentals. Experience building production systems in Python, Go, Rust, TypeScript, or similar. Experience improving reliability and performance. Strong product judgment and developer empathy. Ability to collaborate across teams. Interest in AI.
